The Mary Poppins Touch in My Doula Business

Growing up, one of my favorite movies was "Mary Poppins." I was enchanted by her magical abilities, her charm, and the way she could transform ordinary days into extraordinary adventures. As I ventured into the world of doula services, I couldn't help but draw parallels between my childhood hero and my role in families' lives. Being a doula is kind of like being a real-life Mary Poppins.

Just like Mary Poppins, I get to "pop" into the lives of families during a pivotal moment: the arrival of a new baby. For a short time, I become part of their family, offering support, guidance, and a sprinkle of magic along the way. One of my favorite tools is what I lovingly refer to as my "Mary Poppins Bag." This black bag is filled with an assortment of goodies designed for labor, delivery, and the early days postpartum. You'd be surprised at the treasures it holds!

Whether it's soothing techniques, comforting snacks, or items that bring a little joy to siblings, my bag is a source of comfort and creativity. I often pull out surprises that entertain older siblings while Mom and baby enjoy some much-needed rest. The smiles on their faces remind me why I love this work so much.

Though my heart is with the little ones, I’m here primarily for the moms. Supporting mothers and their partners through the rollercoaster of emotions and experiences that come with childbirth is my passion. Whether it’s offering a comforting hand, providing information, or just being a steady presence, I tailor my support to each family's needs. I want dads and partners to feel empowered and involved during this life-changing journey, knowing they have someone by their side to help navigate the complexities of birth.
