All Births Need A Doula…Vaginal, VBAC, Induction or Cesarean-we are here for YOU.
Many people assume that a planned induction or cesarean means they don’t need a birth doula. That couldn’t be further from the truth. Planned births often come with extra medical steps, unknown timelines, and heightened anxiety — exactly when a doula’s support matters most.
Vaginal Births
We treat all birth journeys with the utmost care and consideration and arm you with lots (and lots) of books, informations and tools to help you to assist me in creating your ultimate birth experience through Spinning Babies comfort measures, the CUB, Hip Sqeezes, Robozo Scarf, Peanut Balls, Birth Combs, Birth Balls, Diffusers, Gentle Lighting, lots of counter pressure tools, music and just about anything else we can dream up!
VBAC Births
I fully support moms who wish to attempt a VBACS . We have worked with many clients who desire to try for a vaginal birth. While we cannot predict outcomes of course, we will plan and support you for a vaginal birth but still prepare for other options from the very beginning throughout your journey!
Inductions
Many births now start with an induction using Pitocin (synthetic Oxytocin hormone) which we will discuss in detail. Inductions are typically the first step in getting baby into real labor mode. We will prepare so that you know what to expect at all stages of your labor!
Comfort measures used in spontaneous labor (positioning, massage, breathing techniques, labor tools, continuous emotional support) are equally valuable during an induction.
Inductions can be long and changeable. A doula provides steady, consistent advocacy and coping strategies so you can move through each phase with more ease and confidence.
Doulas help you communicate preferences and understand what’s happening, reducing confusion and stress when interventions or delays occur.
For cesareans: Doulas in the Operating Room? YES!
*Please note: Many couples are misinformed about this.
Doulas are permitted in the surgical suites at both Madison hospitals (St. Mary’s and Meriter) and can support you before, during, and after the procedure.
A doula does not replace your one chosen support person; instead, they complement them. n’t replaceWhile hospital staff manage clinical care, your doula focuses on your emotional needs, advocacy, and comfort. Couples hear their provider say “You are allowed ONE SUPPORT PERSON. That one person is your choice. We doulas are on the hospital side of the count in the room, not yours. We help Dad (or your partner) get their scrubs ready outside the suite, and when invited—we join you!
YOUR DOULA IS ALLOWED IN WITH YOU.
(Hospitals outside the Madison, WI area may have other policies. As my client, you can be SURE I will gather all the information on the policy of whatever hospital location you choose as your birth location.)
Practical benefit: while the birthing person is being prepped, the partner is often left waiting and anxious outside the suite. A doula provides a calming presence, explains what to expect, and supports the partner through that stressful interval.
Planned doesn’t mean you don’t need support. Whether you’re facing an induction or a c-section, a doula is an anchor — offering preparation, continuous presence, advocacy, and reassurance so your birthing experience feels safer and more centered. Book a free consultation to discuss how doula care can fit your birth plan.
Home Births
I have received training for home births and would be honored to support you. As soon as you have secured a certified midwife, please contact me. I would love to be a part of your birth journey! We will meet ahead for our pre-natals and I’ll be there at the first sign of early labor if that’s what you choose. You decide when you’d like us to come and support you!
